Count the days between two dates

This calculator tells you exactly how many days separate two dates, along with the equivalent in weeks and a years-months-days breakdown. It's useful for counting down to a vacation, wedding or deadline; figuring how long a project took; tracking a pregnancy or a habit streak; or checking notice periods and contract terms.

Should the end date be included?

By default the calculator counts the days between two dates, the way you'd count nights in a hotel stay: January 1 to January 3 is 2 days. Some situations count both the first and last day; a conference running January 1 through January 3 is 3 days long. Choose "Include end date" to add that extra day.

How it is calculated

Both dates are converted to calendar days in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), so daylight saving time changes can't add or remove an hour and throw the count off. The difference is then divided by the length of a day. Leap years are handled automatically because the calculation uses real calendar dates.

If the end date is earlier than the start date, the day count is negative, which can be handy for checking how long ago something happened.

Business days

This tool counts calendar days, including weekends and holidays. As a rough estimate, multiply by 5/7 for business days, then subtract any public holidays in the range. A full year has about 260 weekdays.
